General Liability Insurance & Professional Insurance

Katy Insurance Agency has experience protecting Texas businesses against legal liability claims. Learn more about our liability policy options below or reach out to our agency to discuss your particular liability coverage needs.

The Place to Start: General Liability Insurance
In addition to commercial property insurance, every business needs general liability insurance. This policy covers a range of claims, including medical bills, personal injury claims, advertising injury claims, defense costs and more. Small business owner policies (BOPs) offer a combination of property and liability coverage.

Professional Liability Insurance (Errors and Omissions)
Professional liability insurance, also known as errors and omissions (E&O) insurance, covers you in the event that someone is harmed physically and/or financially due to the services you provide. This coverage includes legal fees associated with defending yourself in a lawsuit and any settlements that may arise out of those claims.

If you are a small business owner, professional liability coverage may be included in your BOP or base general liability policy, but there are not guarantees this coverage is adequately protecting you. For more specialized professions and complex exposures, we offer tailored policies geared specifically to the services you provide:

  • Legal malpractice
  • Medical malpractice
  • Employer practices liability insurance (EPLI)
  • Errors and omissions (E&O) coverage
  • Directors and officers (D&O) insurance

Workers Compensation
Workers compensation is required by law in the State of Texas. There are two parts to any workers compensation policy. The first part protects employees who are injured on the job or become ill due to their jobs. The second part of the policy provides special employer liability coverage should you be found liable for an employee’s illness or injury in a civil lawsuit.

Do You Need Commercial Umbrella Insurance?
One coverage that many businesses should have but may have overlooked in their commercial insurance packages is the umbrella insurance policy. The umbrella policy provides an extra layer of financial protection above and beyond your base liability coverage. It can also provide protection in situations where you would otherwise have none. In addition, many contracts and leases require businesses to carry this additional insurance. While we review the benefits of an umbrella policy with each of our business clients, we actively encourage specific niche businesses to seriously consider the additional coverage:

  • Architects
  • Engineers
  • Developers and contractors
  • Medical manufacturers
  • Technology-based firms
  • Manufacturers and distributors

Niche businesses also require other specialty insurance products to appropriately address their unique needs and risks. For instance, certain development and construction companies may require pollution coverage. Technology-based companies may want additional cyber liability coverage to protect them online. Fleet companies may require a mixture of owned and non-owned auto insurance.
